For The Love Of God, Close The Bars

Why were bars allowed to reopen in the first place? Why are they still open?

Ideally, when you have the information and capability to to avert a crisis, you want to do so.

But Governor Ducey sat on his hands for weeks as it became obvious case counts were skyrocketing. By every metric we had, it was clear that the situation getting worse. As I discussed before, Ducey waited until the last possible minute to give cities the ability to implement and enforce guidelines such as mask requirements.

The ‘light touch’ approach that Ducey attempted with wayward businesses has moved to a medium touch. Local authorities are charging Riot House in Old Town with a misdemeanor. A number of other Scottsdale bars have been sent final warnings from the Department of Liquor.

This is insanely frustrating because it was never a secret that bars and clubs were prime settings for spread of the virus. It was also no secret that bars in places like Old Town were flagrantly violating health guidelines. Revoking liquor…
